Hey Justin! Thanks for the follow! Honestly, I stuck with the platform for about a year. I haven't touched my poetry book since last November.
I go back and forth a lot on whether to put more time into Wattpad or let it go. I love the idea of the website but after spending a lot of time on it (and just being honest with myself), I don't think my ideal readership is there. Wattpad's demographics consist mainly of young kids and anything other than the romance genre doesn't garner a lot of attention.
At the same time, there's a little bit of a debate brewing about sites like Wattpad. Because it doesn't require payment to read stories (unless authors and their selected works are part of the Paid Stories program), some say that plays into their success. People willingly read what's free. Plus, there's added benefit to having a built-in readership. But still, gaining traction on a site filled with tons of content is hard. Stuff often goes unseen or algorithms become more selective.
For now, I'm more focused on my newsletter I started a few months ago on Substack. It's less about trying to shout over the noise and more about focusing on the writing itself.
Maybe one day I'll give Wattpad another shot, especially since authors have been discovered by agents and publishers by posting their stories there, but for now, it's not part of my journey.
Hope this helps and I'm sorry if this wasn't the answer you were hoping for.
